It’s memorial day.  A day to remember.

My problem with memory is that I’m not always a great listener. My mind is too noisy.

I have selective hearing which leads to selective memory.

Which leads to intermittent misery until God finally gets me in a gentle head lock and reminds me of some basics like:

That I don’t have to try so hard

That I am loved

That I am accepted

That I don’t have to earn His favor

That He is not mad at me

That He has not forgotten me

That His word is true

That every word He has promised me will come to pass

That this is not the end of it all

That heaven is for real

And so is hell

That time is shorter than I think it will be

And freedom more costly than I hoped it would be

That death is inevitable

That people are a gift

That service is a privilege

And duty a blessing

That today is all I have

That He is all I need

And that when I have Him I’ll always have more than enough

Yeah….Some things I just can’t afford to ever forget.

Happy Memorial Day to you no matter where you find yourself today and no matter what you’re doing. I’m thankful for you and for all the men and women who make sure that our freedom is not shaken.
